Birthday drabble for my deathonly bud, Kia! ^^
Ishida and Orihime sat hunkered-down together, watching the shinigami hurry by and laying in wait for the perfect pair of targets.
Orihime silently peered through the foliage of their hiding spot-inside a bush-observing all the shinigami for the best possible pair to attack. Orihime was specifically looking for a man and woman closest to her and Ishida's size, hoping that their reiatsu would be equal to, or lower than theirs. She didn't want to get in over her head just over a pair of shinigami uniforms. She figured it wouldn't be too much of a trifle, these shinigami all probably had several sets of their black hakamas, and losing one wouldn't be too tragic.
Ishida had offered to sew a pair of shinigami robes, but he realized obtaining all that black and white cloth might just be a bit more troublesome than stealing a perfectly good, pre-made set from one of the thousands of shinigami in Sereitei.
"Ishida-kun, how about those two?" Orihime whispered to the Quincy.
The only response she got from him was an inattentive "Mmm."
"Ishida-kun, what's wrong?" Orihime placed a hand on his shoulder to bring him out of his daze.
Ishida jumped in surprise, but managed to stifle his yelp. While Orihime had been picking out targets outside the bush, his focus has been set a little closer, to a leaf inside their hiding place.
"Ah! N-nothing is wrong, Inoue-san. I just... got distracted." Ishida said sheepishly, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose.
"By what?" Orihime was curious.
"Oh, uh, I was watching this ladybug. I didn't expect to find insects in the Soul Society." Ishida pointed at the leaf that he had been observing so intently just moments before.
"Oh! Really? Lemmie see!" Orihime squealed with delight in the quietest tone she could.
She moved forward, near Ishida. She placed her hand on Ishida's crouched thigh for support, and her right breast pressed against his upper arm. Ishida blushed furiously as she was absorbed in watching the ladybug happily munch on aphids. He was grateful towards the little insect for the diversion and accidental physical contact.
"Oh! The Soul Society is really amazing sometimes, ne Ishida-kun?" Orihime smiled and withdrew.
"Indeed." Ishida agreed, and pretended to look the other way at an approaching shinigami down the lane. He hoped his reddening ears wouldn't give his blush away.
